Aerosmith Announces 'Heartbreaking' Decision To Retire From Touring

Aerosmith 's touring days have officially come to a close.

On Friday (August 2), the legendary rock band announced that after five decades performing live shows, they have made the "difficult" but "necessary" decision to stop touring after it was determined a "full recovery" for the vocal injury Steven Tyler sustained was "not possible." The band shared the news in a lengthy message shared on its website .

"It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives," the statement reads. "We've always wanted to blow your mind when performing."

The band was previously scheduled to hit the road on its farewell Peace Out tour later this year after indefinitely postponing the shows last fall following Tyler injuring his vocal cords and fracturing his larynx. However, those plans have now changed for good as he continues to struggle with the injury despite working with the "best medical team."

"As you know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We've seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side," the statement continued. "Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage."

The band acknowledged that fans were eager to see them on their farewell tour and expressed their gratitude for everyone who has supported them since forming in 1970 and watching as they "made rock 'n' roll history."

"We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who've made our historic runs possible," the band wrote, adding a "final thank you" to the "best fans on planet Earth." "Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You've made our dreams come true."

The announcement comes days after guitarist Joe Perry revealed whether the band will continue making music after their previously-scheduled farewell tour.
