San Francisco-based Vir Biotechnology announced on Wednesday plans to lay off 141 workers. The layoffs were disclosed in a WARN document filed with California’s Employment Development Department and includes a significant portion of the company’s upper management: five vice presidents, four senior vice presidents, 14 directors, 12 senior directors, and 19 associate directors.

The layoffs will also affect scientists, engineers, and other research roles.

According to an Aug. 1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Vir's cuts will impact around 25% of its staff. The company stated that the layoffs will be mostly complete by October, with plans to end the year with about 435 employees.
