Liverpool could make millions to fund exciting Arne Slot moves as transfer window set to heat up

Liverpool needs to get at least a couple of signings over the line before the August 30 transfer deadline arrives - but there could be some departures on top of that work to make room for some additions on Arne Slot's roster.

New sporting director Richard Hughes explained a few weeks back that it would be August before things started to heat up in the market and that prediction has so far been proven right. Now, though, the clock is ticking and there is plenty to sort out.

If Fabio Carvalho moves away from Anfield this summer, it will be a permanent sale rather than another loan for the 21-year-old Portuguese playmaker, according to the Daily Telegraph . Last season, he spent time with RB Leipzig (where he didn't play much) and then Hull City (where he excelled) but it is no clearer what his best role is or how he will get many minutes at Liverpool.

Liverpool.com says: If Anthony Gordon arrives at Anfield, it will be even harder to see where Carvalho's minutes come. Even before that, though, there are Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz to consider. Liverpool doesn't play with a number 10 and that is what Carvalho is. A move away might be logical.

Sepp van den Berg , who is valued at $26m (£20m/€24m), made clear his desire to move on and find regular game time at the start of the summer. Those comments, which hinted that he felt he was being held against his will because his valuation was too high, raised eyebrows but he has since performed well in pre-season.

Realistically, however, nothing has changed in as much as a move away will still be required if his wish of starting every week is to be granted. After a year of playing almost every minute for Mainz, there is interest from PSV and various other clubs around Europe.

Liverpool.com says: There is simply too much competition for places at center-back at Liverpool for the young Dutchman to get a regular run of starts. The big question is which clubs might get close enough to the asking price to seal a deal. It does seem a little on the high side.

According to the Daily Mail , Celtic has shown an interest in full-back Owen Beck . After a successful loan spell in Scotland last season with Dundee, a return up north makes sense. Brendan Rodgers had been assessing a few options left-back but Beck is supposedly now high on the shortlist. Celtic, though, would prefer a loan deal.

Liverpool.com says: Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are both ahead of Beck in the pecking order and there is an argument that Luke Chambers (soon to be on loan at Wigan) and Calum Scanlon (who has also attracted plenty of interest this summer) would be too. A permanent exit for Beck would make the most sense for his career and Celtic would be a great club to join.
