Getting right to the point, it’s time for our SmackDown results for August 2nd, 2024, because SummerSlam is (basically) here.

    Quick Results

    • Andrade once again got the best of Carmelo Hayes.
    • Santos Escobar defeats Apollo Crews. Legado had the numbers over the duo of Crews and Corbin, and that gave Escobar the edge .
    • Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn retain the titles via DQ over Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, thanks to an assist from Blair Davenport.
    • The Bloodline defeat DIY and become your new tag team champions in the process.

    Best Match

Was the main event good? Yes, yes it was. But the opening match was better. Andrade and Carmelo delivered a very entertaining match, and I’d love to see more.

    Worst Match

Did not like having the women’s tag title match end how it did. But, I am curious what is going to be done with Davenport joining Dawn and Fyre. I guess SmackDown felt like RAW has a couple women’s groups, but they needed one on the blue brand too?

    Holy S@#$ Moment

I have to think that, at some point, it ties back in to Roman Reigns . But either way, Solo Sikoa got Cody Rhodes to agree to make the SummerSlam main event a Bloodline Rules match. Now this is big for a couple reasons. One, as we learned in Philadelphia, this one means anything goes. So while Solo can get help from his trio of terrorizing Superstars, nothing is going to prevent Cody from having assistance from friends as well.

And because it was said to be the main event, that opens the door for what some think will happen: the return of Roman Reigns. Because you know that if Cody and Solo was like, the first match? Zero chance Reigns returns. I still tend to think we get a Paul Heyman return with Jimmy Uso , but with the way things broke? I would say there is a much stronger chance of a much bigger return. And, I wouldn’t hate if this return was more of a Heyman reboot of a Dangerous Alliance. After all, a Lesnar arrival in Cleveland would probably similarly set the WWE Universe in a frenzy.

And, either way, making that match a no DQ protects both Superstars. Solo won’t need to lose clean, nor would Cody. Which, thinking back to some SummerSlam matches from my childhood? That was par for the course a lot of times (thinking of Lex beating Yoko, but not winning the title).

    Noteworthy Moment

Andrade once again beat Carmelo Hayes in a really good match. Why is that noteworthy? I want to focus on what Hayes said in the vignette before the match. “‘Melo in three, ‘Melo in five”. It doesn’t happen too often, when we have an organized “best of seven” program. But what if Nick Aldis said that both men can battle in a best of seven, with the winner getting a United States title shot? I mean, that seems like an awesome idea to me.

    Lowlights

Nothing really serious. I was not a fan of Johnny losing the titles in front of his home town crowd, but it was kind of predictable.

    Highlights

Strong show from bell to bell on SmackDown, so take your pick. Nice opening segment with Cody and Solo. Really superb opening match, and the rest of the card pretty much kept up with the pace. The LA Knight/Logan Paul segment got lost in the shuffle, but was good too for the most part.

    After The Final Bell

Everything that needed to be said or done has been said or done at this point, and it’s another round of SmackDown results in the books. Saturday, outside in the stadium? It should be a hot one.
