TEXAS - The Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) is urging anglers to go fishing as there has only been two claimed prizes for the CCA State of Texas Angler’s Rodeo (STAR) Tournament.
By this point last year, 23 tagged redfish had been caught since the tournament's Memorial Day kickoff. However, this year, only nine of the 126 specially tagged fish released into Texas saltwater have been caught, with just two claimed for prizes by CCA anglers.
As a result, four Ford truck-and-boat combos, each valued at $125,000, remain up for grabs. Additionally, seven boat packages worth $75,000 each, and over $40,000 in Academy Sports and Outdoors gift cards, are yet to be claimed.
Local anglers are urged to fish whenever and wherever they can along the Texas shoreline. Specially tagged redfish were released at intervals of one every five miles. CCA needs the public's help to distribute these prizes, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
With over a month remaining in the tournament, which concludes on Labor Day, CCA relies on participants to collect these prizes. To join the tournament, anglers must become CCA members, enter the STAR competition, and start fishing.
