‘Haters Hate It’: Simone Biles Dishes On Why She Wore Her GOAT Necklace

Simone Biles will be leaving the 2024 Paris Olympics with some new jewelry in the form of a few more gold medals, but it’s the trinket that she brought with her to Paris that’s got everyone talking.
After claiming gold in the women’s gymnastics all-around final on Thursday, Biles proudly showed off a custom-made goat necklace — a nod to her nickname as the “GOAT” of women’s gymnastics.
Biles recently opened up about the role those who doubt her played in having the necklace made and the importance it plays in her personal journey.
“It’s a little ode,” Biles told BBC . “I mean, they always call me the GOAT, so I thought it would be really special if I got one made. And the haters hate it, so I love that even more. And it’s just a special part of me that I have here, as well as in the (Olympic) village, I have like a stuffed goat, just to get a reminder, ‘You can go out there, you can do it, you’ve done it before, so let’s go.’”
With her win on Thursday, Biles now has six Olympic gold medals to her name and nine overall. She also became just the third women ever to win the all-round final twice and the first to win it in nonconsecutive Olympics.
Biles’ nine Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals make her the most-decorated gymnast in the sport’s history. Her nine Olympic medals are also the fifth-most all-time of any gymnast and the most among U.S. gymnasts, signaling that her GOAT status is well-deserved.
