TRANSPORT chaos has seen the men’s single sculls gold medal race delayed.

A bus carrying an athlete from the Olympic Village to Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium has got stuck in a huge Paris traffic jam.

The rowing race was scheduled for 9:42am this morning.

But rowing officials confirmed one athlete was delayed in getting to the venue, which is around 15 miles east of the centre of Paris.

A statement from chiefs read: “Due to athlete transport disruption from the Olympic Village, the World Rowing Executive Committee and Paris 2024 have decided to reschedule.

“Other events are not affected by this change.”

An official told SunSport that Yauheni Zalaty of Belarus was the delayed rower.

He is competing as a neutral athlete because his country is banned from the Games for its support of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The men’s single sculls was moved to become the final race of the regatta.

And the delay paid off for Zalaty, who went onto clinch silver.

Meanwhile, Team GB have enjoyed a successful time on the water in Paris, winning eight rowing medals so far.

Emily Craig and Imogen Grant won gold in the women’s lightweight double sculls yesterday.

And their victory came after Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson and Georgie Brayshaw sealed victory in the women’s quadruple sculls on Wednesday.

There was more success today as Team GB took home the gold in the men’s eights .
