Man Utd share cryptic Bruno Fernandes transfer hint ahead of Liverpool game

Manchester United appear to have given an answer on Bruno Fernandes transfer rumors ahead of their friendly clash against Liverpool on Saturday night.

The two most successful clubs in English soccer come face-to-face in a rare occasion between the two fierce rivals that can be called a ‘friendly’. The game at the Williams-Brice Stadium sees new Liverpool boss Arne Slot renew his rivalry with fellow Dutchman Erik ten Hag in the opposing dugout.

But there has been another plot simmering in the background of United’s pre-season regarding the future of their captain. Fernandes had been linked to European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, as well as teams from Saudi Arabia, during the usual summer transfer circus. French outlet L’Equipe , even reported that PSG entered the fray for his signature as the 29-year-old played for Portugal during Euro 2024.

Earlier in the summer, Fernandes said: "I don't have thoughts for other things at the moment. It doesn't just depend on me. So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League , it won't be until after the Euros.

"A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there's that on both sides. I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn't been at the level I'd hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far."

But United’s social media activity appears to have seen the club move to put the links to bed as they uploaded a picture of Fernandes wearing the new navy blue away shirt with the caption: “Our captain (blue heart emoji)".

Fernandes joined United in January 2020 when the Red Devils finally sealed 18 months of links over a possible transfer. The Portuguese has scored 79 goals and registered 66 assists in 233 games in all competitions for United. He immediately became an integral part of the team and replaced Harry Maguire as club captain ahead of the 2023/24 season.

However, he’s yet to feature for United in pre-season so far having been given an extended period off after helping Portugal reach the quarter-finals of the Euros where they were dumped out on penalties by France. Fernandes returned to training on Friday as the Liverpool clash is United’s final game before the Community Shield final against Manchester City .
