Fan favorite Isaac Cruz is ready to impress when Riyadh Season comes to California. He defends the WBA super lightweight title against Jose Valenzuela on the undercard of Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov .

Cruz (26-2-1) is on a four-fight win streak after losing against Gervonta Davis in 2021 , a fight where he was a late replacement opponent but went the distance against "Tank." Three of those four wins came via knockout, punishing Rolando Romero in his last fight in March to become WBA champion. He’s ready to compete in unification fights and potentially face Davis in a rematch.

The 26-year-old has a massive following and looks to showcase his skills against a tough opponent.

“It will be an entertaining fight because Rayo’s style is moving forward to fight. This style is very good for me, and I think that this will be entertaining,” Cruz told The Ring .

Valenzuela (13-2) is 2-2 in his last four fights. He avenged a loss against Chris Colbert by knocking "Primetime" out in December. “Rayo” has nine wins via knockout and competes in his first fight at 140 after competing at the lightweight level. Trained by Mario Rodriguez and Robert Garcia, Valenzuela will look to take advantage of his six-inch height and seven-inch reach edge against Cruz.

“It’s my debut at 140, I’ve been feeling great though, of course, I got the height for 140. In the gym, I’ve been feeling more powerful, I feel more energized in the workout, so I think it was the move that I needed that I didn’t know I needed. I think August 3, it’s gonna show,” Valenzuela told The Ring .

“It’s no secret what he does, I feel I will match up real well with him, I think it’s a fight that could be fight of the year, I’m lefty, I’m long, I’m strong, I’m fast so it’s gonna be a great matchup.”
