The latest Paris Olympic medal count by NCAA conference is in, following a week of events and competitions in France.
Right now, the ACC is in the lead and it’s not particularly close in the total, nor the Gold count. Still, each conference is seemingly represented as we hit the latter half of the Olympics.
The ACC has been the dominant conference this Olympic Cycle. The conference, which was also a proponent of expansion, has roughly 30% more medals than second place.
What helps is the swimming, considering Katie Ledecky racked up more medals. Stanford is an ACC school now after all. On Thursday evening, she won yet another silver medal in the 4×200 freestyle, putting herself in even more rarified air. In bringing home the silver, she has now won 13 total medals in her career, more than any other American woman in history.
Southeastern Conference: 19

3 Gold, 10 Silver, 6 Bronze
The SEC is clearly in second place, pacing six medals ahead of the Big Ten (more on that below). There are plenty of opportunities ahead though.
Former Florida basketball standout Canyon Barry is trying to will Team USA to a medal in three-on-three basketball. Barry scored 29 of the team’s 42 points in competition Friday.
Big Ten: 13

3 Gold, 3 Silver, 7 Bronze
The Big Ten can certainly catch up with gymnastics and wrestling coming up this week. The three gold medals are tied with the SEC going into the latter half of the Olympics.
The US Men’s freestyle wrestling team has five of its six members from Big Ten schools. All of them have a legitimate shot at getting a medal when it’s all said and done. Kyle Snyder ( Ohio State ) is a previous Gold and Silver Medalist in 2016 and ’20.
Ivy League: 6

4 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze
The Ivy League made a push to get into the top four in this latest update. With four gold medals, the conference is tied for second most among the conferences.
The women’s foil fencing team won its first Olympic gold medal, full of Ivy League reps. Laureen Scruggs, Jackie Dubrovich and Maia Weintraub, who defeated the Italians in the final match, were from Harvard , Columbia and Princeton , respectively.
Other Conference’s Medal Count
Big 12 : 4 Gold, 1 Bronze MAAC : 2 Bronze Pac-12 : 1 Gold Big East : 2 Silver GNAC : 1 Silver Mountain West : 1 Bronze NESCAC : 1 Bronze Ohio Valley : 1 Bronze Patriot League : 1 Bronze
With a week-plus to go, it seems like the medal count is only just getting started! We’ll see if the ACC can hang on to its lead.
