The overall SNAP payment error rate for the 2023 fiscal year was 11.68 percent, with overpayments accounting for 10.03 percent and underpayments for 1.65 percent. These errors occur when state agencies incorrectly determine a household's eligibility for SNAP benefits. The FNS emphasized that errors are primarily due to inaccuracies in determining eligibility and benefit amounts, rather than fraud.

On July 5, 2024, Governor Green released the next set of the 16 bills signed into law. Here is a bill that could affect landlords in Hawaii. "Establishes a pre-litigation mediation procedure for tenancies that are subject to the eviction moratorium issued under the Governor's emergency proclamations relating to wildfires once the eviction moratorium expires. Restricts when landlord remedies are available depending on the amount of rent due. Appropriates funds to the Judiciary for mediation services. Effective 7/1/2024, except the new pre-litigation procedures are effective on the expiration of the final eviction moratorium. Repeals certain provisions on 12/31/2026 or on the one-year anniversary of the expiration of the Governor's final eviction moratorium emergency supplementary proclamation relating to wildfires, whichever occurs sooner. The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved legislation that would allow Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) doctors to recommend medical marijuana. Under current law, VA doctors are prohibited from recommending medical marijuana to their patients, even if those patients reside in states where medical marijuana is legal. A provision that would end this prohibition is included in the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies 2025 budget, approved today by the Senate Appropriations Committee in a unanimous voice vote.
