If you only had a $50 grocery budget to spend at Sam’s Club on pantry foods, what would be the best items to buy?

When selecting these pantry items, GOBankingRates was careful not to repeat any of the foods previously referenced in our roundup of the best dried foods to buy at Sam’s Club. We also took into consideration picking pantry foods that had the versatility to be used in various meals and swapped the Member’s Mark brand for name brands when possible to save extra money. For the four items we found, our total came to $35.56. This left us enough wiggle room for taxes and to save any leftover funds in the $50 grocery budget.

    Member’s Mark Buttermilk Pancake Mix

When choosing a breakfast item, we looked for a nourishing pantry staple that could feed any household size and had some longevity. Breakfast cereals, for example, tend to go fast, especially if you pour yourself generous bowls every morning.

Member’s Mark buttermilk pancake mix, weighing 10 pounds a bag for $7.48, makes around 200+ pancakes. For households that aren’t big pancake eaters, the same mix can be used to make waffles. As a bonus, the mix bag comes in a resealable pouch so it can be sealed and kept in the pantry when not in use.

Member’s Mark Diced Tomatoes in Tomato Juice (12 Pack)

Canned tomatoes often make our roundups of bulk foods to shop if you’re on a budget for several reasons. They have a long shelf life, are more affordable to buy than fresh tomatoes and can be added into many types of meals, from lasagna to chili.

Out of the many canned tomato options for sale at Sam’s Club, we picked the Member’s Mark diced tomatoes in tomato juice. Each package includes 12 cans which comes out to spending roughly 83 cents per can after doing the math.

StarKist Chunk Light Tuna in Water (12 Pack)

What can’t tuna fish do? It’s full of protein and can be added to all sorts of dishes like tuna sandwiches, casseroles and pastas for lunches and dinners. If your pantry is running low on tuna, now’s the time to stock up on StarKist chunk light tuna in water for $9.98.

Some readers may be surprised that we didn’t choose a Member’s Mark option, like Member’s Mark solid white albacore tuna . The reason why boils down to getting the best bang for your buck.

The Member’s Mark albacore tuna included eight cans of tuna for $12.98. In contrast, StarKist chunk light tuna is on sale right now for $1 off but is regularly priced at $10.98 for 12 cans. When we do the math, the price per Member’s Mark tuna can is $1.62. For StarKist, the price before the sale is applied is 91 cents per can. With the sale price, it’s lowered even further to 83 cents.

Member’s Mark Natural Creamy Peanut Butter (2 Pack)

The last pantry item to shop is Member’s Mark natural creamy peanut butter. Longtime GOBankingRates readers know we’re partial towards peanut butter and all the ways it can be used for savory and sweet meals alike.

Sam’s Club sells plenty of peanut butter two-packs, but shoppers looking for the best deals will likely skip the name brands in favor of Member’s Mark. For the $8.12 price tag, you’re only paying $4.06 per 40-ounce container.
