As the New York Jets get prepared for the start of the 2024 season, they are one of the most interesting teams in the NFL. If things go right for the Jets, they could be Super Bowl contenders. However, on the flip side, we saw what happened when something went wrong last season.
The AFC East is going to be a battle with the Jets, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins all trying to win the division and make the playoffs. While the New England Patriots will likely be the punching bag of the division, you can make a case for the rest of the teams within the division to be contenders.
The Jets’ over-under win total currently sits at 9.5, which puts them right in the mix for being in the playoffs. However, they could either easily eclipse that mark, or we could see something similar to last year happen.
Recently, Bleacher Report named a few teams that are likely to disappoint in 2024. Unfortunately for the Jets, they made the list. Here’s what they had to say about New York .
“There’s no team with a wider range of 2024 outcomes in the NFL than the New York Jets.
That’s because so much of their success depends on how well a 40-year-old quarterback recuperates from an Achilles tear. It’s been nearly a year since Aaron Rodgers suffered the injury in last year’s season opener.
Rodgers’ injury obviously took a lot of wind out of the sails for the Jets in 2023. The defense continued to play at a high level, but it only resulted in seven wins because the Jets had the worst quarterback room without Rodgers, dealt with injuries across the offensive line and they didn’t seem to have the coaching to overcome their circumstance.”
The Jets are an enigma heading into 2024
The Jets being named as a team likely to disappoint isn’t something that Jets fans will want to see, but it is an unfortunate reality. New York is anxious to end their playoff drought, but it’s impossible to predict what Aaron Rodgers will be in 2024. To the Jets’ credit, they did add a good backup quarterback in Tyrod Taylor this offseason, so if Rodgers does miss time, they should be able to compete with Taylor.
New York on paper looks much better prepared for 2024 than it was for 2023, but it will need some key players like Rodgers to stay healthy. If that doesn’t happen, the Jets’ 2024 season could very well be a disappointment.
