    Netflix fans praise 'underrated gem' but warn viewers about shock 'mind-screw' ending

    Through Netflix , fans can rediscover many films from the past .

    One film in particular from 2010 is coming back into conversation as it's on the streaming service. A Facebook user in the Facebook Netflix Recommendations 2024 group posted a photo of the film poster of psychological thriller Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio 's face on it. They asked: "Next on my list to watch. It’s over two hours long. Is it any good or just a waste of time?"

    Comments poured through mostly with high praise for the film and recommending the user watch the film. But there were some warnings too for the user before they embarked on the journey to watch the two-hour and 18-minute film.

    One fan wrote: "Very very good! A lot of twists and turns." A second fan advised: "Very good. Just make sure you are in the mood to pay attention. It requires full attention. I've watched it a few times and catch something new everytime" A third fan exclaimed: "This movie was excellent!!!! Total mind-screw at the end." A fourth agreed, warning: "Very good movie, but the ending will drive you insane." A fifth fan said: "An underrated gem of a film."

    Shutter Island is an adaption of the 2003 novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane. The legendary Martin Scorsese directed the film with his star-studded cast of Leonardo, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley and Michelle Williams, to name a few. The thriller follows Two U.S. Marshals Teddy Daniels (Leonardo) and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark) who go to an insane asylum called Ashecliffe Hospital. The asylum is on a remote island where secrets and unexplained instances run amok.

    The two have are sent there to investigate the disappearance of a patient by the name of Rachel Solando (Emily Mortimer) who had murdered her three children. Through their investigation, an appalling truth is uncovered.

    Shutter Island grossed $295million worldwide and had overall positive reviews from critics when it was released at the time. It was named one of National Board of Review' s top 10 movies in 2010.

    In August 2014, it was reported that Paramount Television and HBO had plans to make a prequel television series for the successful film called Ashecliffe. The show would have dived into the insane asylum and act as an origin story of sorts.
