'My sister named her newborn baby after our dead dad - she didn't ask me permission and I'm furious'

Choosin' a name for your bundle of joy is no small task you're lookin' for that perfect label that they'll wear with pride. Some folks dip into the pool o' pop culture, from hit TV series to chart-toppin' artists for inspiration, while others snatch up names with deep personal resonance.

In one such heartfelt move, a lady chose to honor her dearly departed dad by bestowin' his name upon her new son. But this tribute stirred up a family squabble, with the woman's sister blastin' the choice as hasty and in poor taste , fearful it'd tarnish the memory of their father.

The disgruntled aunt aired her grievances on Reddit's "Am I the a**hole" forum, openly questioning the respectfulness of the naming decision. The conflicted sister wrote: "So, my sister recently had a baby and she named him after my dad, who passed away a few years ago. I was really touched by the gesture, but I also felt like it was a little too soon to be naming a baby after someone who just passed."

"I felt like it would be disrespectful to my dad's memory and that it would be hard for me to see my nephew with the same name as my dad.", reports the Mirror .

"I decided to talk to my sister about it and I suggested that she could come up with a different name for the baby. She got really upset and now she's not talking to me. My other family members are also mad at me for bringing it up. Am I the a**hole? ".

In the online debate, the woman faced backlash for consistently referring to her father as 'my dad' instead of 'our dad', which shocked commenters.

One user commented: "It's your sister's father too, and her baby. You're the a**hole."

Another expressed annoyance: "Her baby, her choice. Seriously. I am sorry for your loss. I think in time you will respect and love this choice. Perhaps your emotions now are raw and clouding rational adjustment."

They continued, advising, "Nonetheless, asking anyone to change the name of a baby - a**hole. Take care - and maybe see if you can get some grief therapy."

Yet another chimed in, pointing out, "Even if he recently died it wouldn't be disrespectful."

A Reddit user harshly stated, "You don't get a say in the child's name", and added that their dad would likely be honored by the namesake. They suggested, "Your dad would probably be proud to have someone carrying on his name. If it bothers you then that's something you need to work out on your own."
