Frenchman Teddy Riner’s post-match celebration at the Paris Olympics was cut short by a stiff kick to the groin delivered by his opponent Guram Tushishvili of Georgia. The Georgian then pushed Riner’s head to the mat. The move seemingly took Riner by surprise, from the look of his face in photos, and Tushishvili received a red card for being a sore loser during the 100kg match. The New York Post reported that Tushishvili was also disqualified completely from participating in any international judo competition until the International Judo Federation Disciplinary Commission comes to a final disciplinary decision after an investigation. “Following the incident that took place at the end of the quarter-final between Teddy Riner (FRA) and Guram Tushishvili (GEO) in the +100 kg weight category, the behavior of the Georgian judoka was completely against the ‘spirit of judo,’” said the IJF in a statement. “An ad-hoc disciplinary commission was called immediately together to investigate the situation.” Riner is a two-time gold medalist.
