Erik ten Hag has said that Manchester United is still assessing the extent of Marcus Rashford's ankle injury ahead of facing Liverpool . Rashford, who was forced to leave the pitch in the 3-2 friendly win over Real Betis in San Diego after being caught by a crunching tackle, seemed to suggest it was an impact-related injury as he made his way off the field.

Ten Hag hasn't confirmed how serious Rashfords injury is at this point, indicating the club will hold off on any risk-taking with its pre-season winding down and the new campaign on the horizon. "We have to wait," Ten Hag conveyed, via the Daily Mirror .

"Of course, we don't take risks in the last game of the tour, going into the season next week already, we go into an important game and we are still 24 hours after a game. The final assessment we still have to make and the we will see if they are ready for the game against Liverpool."

While Antony also exited early due to injury in the same match, it seems like less of a concern, with the outlook hopeful for his participation against arch-rivals Liverpool in South Carolina.

On the bright side, Ten Hag disclosed that Alejandro Garnacho is set to return to the fold as the pre-season schedule progresses. Speaking on team arrivals, Ten Hag noted: "Of course, we have a plan on every individual when they have to show up. The plan is now running.

"Alejandro will already, tomorrow, start training. Licha will start on Monday so I have it in my mind, and that there is a plan and the need for every player in the off-season. We know every player where they are fitness-wise and next week we have to bring everything together.

"We have to prepare for the season, but we understand that we have to give a performance and that we represent our club and that we represent Premier League football here. So [we have] to find the right balance in this."

One player who could be leaving United is Scott McTominay, with Fulham having submitted a second bid — believed to be around $32m (£25m/€30m) — for the midfielder. Ten Hag said: "I am so pleased with the performance of Scott McTominay.

"I am so pleased to have him in my squad. With the type of person he is, he has such a huge impact on the team with his performance and team spirit. When he is playing more in the advanced position that suits him better, he is so important to making goals in my team. I am very happy to have him in my squad."

Liverpool.com says: Rashford looked like he was going to be a top player when he was younger but has stayed still for a couple seasons now, partly thanks to injuries. Manchester United is a much better team with him at his peak.

The upcoming game between the Reds and the Old Trafford side won't be decisive in terms of how the season is going to pan out. It will, though, be interesting to see where both teams are up to in their preparations.
