Sha’Carri Richardson clinched silver in the 100-meter dash at the Paris Olympics on Saturday, finishing with a time of 10.87 seconds. It is Richardson’s first Olympic medal after she previously tested positive for THC and was suspended from the 2020 Tokyo Games. Runner Julien Alfred, representing Saint Lucia, finished first place in the dash with a time of 10.72 seconds. Melissa Jefferson, also from Team USA, won bronze with a time of 10.92 seconds. According to ABC News , following her controversial 2021 disqualification in the U.S. Trials for marijuana use, Richardson went on to compete and break the world record for the 100-meter at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest with a time of 10.65 seconds. Prior to Saturday’s win, Richardson qualified for this year’s games after she ran 100 meters in only 10.71 seconds at the Trials in Eugene, Oregon. “I’m not back. I’m better,” is the catchphrase Richardson coined in reference to her return to form.
