Trump Congratulates Putin On ‘Yet Another Great Deal’ For Getting Back ‘Some Of The Greatest Killers Anywhere’ in Prisoner Swap

At his rally in Georgia on Saturday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump offered his congratulations to Russian president Vladimir Putin as a way to bash President Joe Biden for the prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States, Germany, Norway, Poland, and Slovenia earlier in the week.

In the largest prisoner exchange since the Cold War, 8 prisoners from the participating nations were returned to Russia in exchange for the release of 16 individuals who the Russians were holding on false charges, including journalist Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan .

Trump and other Republicans were quick to bash the deal – or credit it as a Trump win – right away on Thursday.

At his Saturday rally, Trump repeated his comment from earlier in the week trashing Biden over the deal and saying it was all to Putin’s benefit. He said it sets a “bad precedent,” addressing part of his comments to Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in the crowd for emphasis.

“I’d like to congratulate Vladimir Putin for having made yet another great deal. Did you see the deal we made?” Trump said in an aside during the rally. “They released some of the greatest killers anywhere in the world, some of the most evil killers they got.”
