Carrie Underwood Reveals Her Biggest “Problem” With Being An “American Idol” Judge

Carrie Underwood is excited to bring her career full circle and join American Idol as a judge, but she anticipates one big problem—she “can’t lie.”

“I just can’t,” she told Good Morning America . “You can tell. I feel like I’ll be very honest. But hopefully, I can be very constructive and encouraging. Just ask my kids.”

The songstress broke into the music industry after winning the show’s season 4 in 2005. She’s gone on to become one of country music’s most iconic stars, with eight Grammy awards, seven CMAs, and 16 ACMs.

Carrie Underwood Replaces Katy Perry on “American Idol”

Earlier this week, American Idol announced that Carrie would be replacing Katy Perry and judge season 23 alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

“This upcoming season marks 20 years since Carrie won America’s hearts on Idol and launched her successful multi-Grammy Award-winning career,” Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, wrote in a press release . “As a former Idol and dynamic musical force, she brings a remarkably unique perspective to one of the most popular shows on television. This is a full-circle moment both for the show and audiences at home who have been tuning in for over two decades. Welcome home, Carrie.”

When the news broke, Carrie shared how “proud” she was of what she accomplished on the show and “everything” she’s “accomplished since.”

“There’s so many people that even still work on the show that were there from when I was a contestant,” she added while talking to GMA .

“I feel like being on both sides of the coin,” Carrie added. “I’ll be able to hopefully offer some insight and help and kind of offer a different viewpoint.”
