After our second Bloodline Rules match ever (and, of 2024), what do we make of what happened-Roman Reigns returns and helps Cody Rhodes defeat Solo Sikoa at the 2024 edition of SummerSlam.

The match had not even started yet and the seeds were planted. To be honest, leading up to the biggest party of the summer, many figured Roman Reigns would return. When Solo Sikoa goaded Cody Rhodes into a Bloodline Rules match for SummerSlam ? And we also had confirmed that their match was the main event? Expectations went through the roof. Of course, we all knew Reigns would return. But before Rhodes had even come through the curtain we were treated to a surprise and and a tease. The surprise was the returning Arn Anderson, long a Rhodes family friend. And Arn promised that Cody had backup, because Anderson still had some influence.

    But who?

We got the obvious two out of the way. As Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa got involved, they were shortly answered by Kevin Owens and Randy Orton . Those two were surely the friends that Anderson indicated Rhodes would have expected. Which we all would have, given they just recently were tag partners in a six man (which they lost).

Things got interesting when Jacob Fatu came out and wrecked Cody. But, Jacob may have also wrecked his own leg. But he told his Tribal Chief to go finish the job and get the title, and as he went to do just that, that final surprise that Arn Anderson hinted at? We got it, and Cleveland went nuts.

Roman Reigns returned. The music hit, a bit different. And you quickly saw Reigns rocking an “OTC” shirt with his OG Roman Reigns double R logo. Which, maybe I am forgetting it, but I feel like we haven’t seen that in a bit. But Reigns strode to the ring with a purpose, slid in and drilled his former enforcer with a superman punch and allowed Cody Rhodes to retain the title.

As much as some pundits said that Reigns wouldn’t be back now, it makes sense. For one, if WWE wants to do a Bloodline themed WarGames match, they absolutely can. And when people figured it would be Reigns plus Jimmy and Jey and then some unknown fourth, there was a bit of respect shown between two adversaries today. Could Cody possibly be that fourth?

    What’s Next?

Make no mistake, the long game will be big matches at WrestleMania . Given how Roman is not an every week act, and there are plenty of layers of the story left to be assembled? The next few months will be tremendous. When will Heyman return? How and when will Jimmy and Jey be reunited, as we know that’s going to happen too, right? And would the legacy Bloodline add any of their own new blood? And, there’s still that other big name family member that wants back for a big match, so where might The Rock show up? Lots to unpack, for sure. Yes, the road to WrestleMania doesn’t officially kick off until January’s Royal Rumble . But unless you missed it, it feels like it started Saturday night in Cleveland. So, did you like what WWE did with Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes?
