Suni Lee Drops Honest Admission About Simone Biles Clash

Simone Biles' performances in the Paris Olympics thus far have been nothing short of dominant . So much so, that she's left even her own teammates in the dust.

Biles was at the forefront of the USA Gymnastics team's first gold medal on Tuesday when she led her squad to a first-place finish in the team final. Two days later, Biles bagged her second gold medal, this time in the individual all-around final, with American teammate Suni Lee settling for the bronze.

Lee came into this event as the defending champion after winning gold in Tokyo three years ago. However, even the 21-year-old herself admitted that at one point in the competition, she knew that she stood no chance against Biles.

"I mean, after beam, I honestly was just telling myself, like, there's really no shot for a medal," Lee said right after the all-around final. "So I was just like, 'Go out there and have fun.' And that's exactly what I did.

"I did everything that I was supposed to and here we are. I'm so happy with my medal. I didn't even think that I would be here, so to be here is just a blessing in itself."

For context, Lee was sharing her mindset entering the final rotation of the competition, which was the floor routine. At that point, Lee was tied for fourth place with Algeria's Kaylia Nemour. Biles, Rebecca Andrade of Brazil, and Italy's Alice D'Amato were ranked first through third, respectively.

Based on her own admission, Lee did not think she still had a shot at winning a medal before hitting the floor, which speaks volumes not only of Biles' performance but of the competition as well.

Lee turned in an incredible floor routine, though, which was highlighted by a flawless handspring into a wolf turn. She scored 13.666, which was enough to earn her a podium finish.

There is obviously no bad blood between Lee and Biles, as the former was one of the first to congratulate Simone for her latest gold medal. Nevertheless, Lee's bronze finish -- her fifth Olympic medal -- is an undeniably remarkable feat as well.
