Anthony Gordon forces move, two more deals done - Liverpool dream squad before transfer deadline

Liverpool is yet to make a signing this summer but things are expected to heat up in the market across the course of the next few weeks . Behind the scenes, head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes have been busy.

Earlier this week, The Independent reported that Liverpool could make as many as four signings this summer, with center-backs, holding midfielders and wide forwards being assessed. The Reds could make two additions in attack, according to that report, while it suggested that Eintracht Frankfurt's Willian Pacho , a 22-year-old defender, was admired.

Realistically, unless someone leaves, adding two wingers would be overkill. Liverpool does not need more than six senior forward options and already has five at the club, which is a strong position from which to kick on.

Anthony Gordon , for whom Liverpool agreed a deal in principle earlier in the summer before Newcastle United sold other players instead to fix its PSR concerns, would be the dream capture for the forward line. It does feel realistic that it could happen in this window but if not, all the player has to do to force it to go through in the future is refrain from penning a new deal .

In a dream scenario, Liverpool would be able to sign Gordon this month. Given a fee of $96m (£75m/€88m) was agreed when Newcastle was facing a desperate scramble for PSR compliance , it would be a figure north of that now.

Elsewhere, an elite holding midfielder has been a priority for a while now. Liverpool moved for Aurelien Tchouameni in 2022 but he ended up at Real Madrid and a year later made a mammoth bid for Moises Caicedo , only for the Ecuadorian to elect to go to Chelsea.

The difficulty is that there are very few options out there better than what Liverpool already has. The Reds don't want to stop the progression of Stefan Bajcetic , but ideally a top-level player would be available on the market. If they are, Liverpool will make a move.

At center-back, Sepp van den Berg and Nat Phillips could move on while there are whispers surrounding Joe Gomez , though the Reds do not want to lose the 27-year-old . Given Ibrahima Konate's injury history and the fact that Gomez had to spend most of last season at full-back, signing another defender would seem sensible. And that would leave a dream roster looking something like this:

Goalkeepers : Alisson Becker , Caoimhin Kelleher, Vitezslav Jaros.
Defenders: Joel Matip replacement, Virgil van Dijk , Joe Gomez , Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah , Kostas Tsimikas, Conor Bradley, Trent Alexander-Arnold , Andy Robertson .
Midfielders: New holding midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister , Dominik Szoboszlai , Harvey Elliott , Wataru Endo , Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones , Bobby Clark.
Forwards: Anthony Gordon, Mohamed Salah , Darwin Núñez , Luis Diaz , Cody Gakpo , Diogo Jota .

Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon could head out on loan while there is interest in Bobby Clark too but bringing in three signings — center-back, holding midfield, and Gordon — would leave Liverpool with no weaknesses. The clock is ticking with the August 30 deadline edging closer.
