It's common to receive a wedding invitation, but what about a wedding rejection ?

A Reddit user shared an unusual story about their cousin's pre-wedding antics. The cousin was planning a small, semi-destination wedding and wanted to keep the guest list short due to budget constraints.

The Redditor received an invitation to the wedding, but discovered that others had been sent a wedding "rejection" letter. The couple sent cards to those not invited to the wedding, with the message "You are in our hearts on this special day."

"Their excuse is for the sake of 'curiosity and thinking of them.' But what I don't understand is why send this BEFORE the wedding. It would make more sense AFTER and send it out to them."

The user also revealed that the cousins were expecting guests to have "a role to help set up."

Wedding attendees were expected to assist in setting up tables for the reception while the bride and groom had their photos taken.

"My reply was 'You're TELLING people who drove 5 hours to your wedding, spent their gas and hotel money, to set up for your wedding? ' And their response is 'Yea.'"

The couple explained they couldn't afford to hire people to set up the reception. The Reddit user pointed out that they've been travelling a lot recently instead of saving for the wedding.

In the comments, several people said they wouldn't attend the big day.

One person remarked, referencing South Park: "The cards to the non-invited guests has big Eric Cartman energy. 'Look at this amazing wedding, it's in a garden with plants and trees. And the best part is, YOU CAN'T COME. Especially Stan and Kyle.'"

Another quipped: "I am always looking for excuses not to go to a wedding, and this one would be a jackpot."

Someone opined that it's customary to send a wedding announcement to those not invited to the event itself, just to inform them that the wedding occurred. These are typically sent post-wedding.

And another commenter simply put it: "Tacky, tacky, tacky!"
