Novak Djokovic may have just secured GOAT status.

On Sunday, August 4, the Serbian tennis star defeated Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, 7-6, 7-6, in the men’s singles gold medal match in Paris. Djokovic bested Alcaraz in a second-set tiebreak.

At the conclusion of the match, an emotional Djokovic could be seen visibly shaking on the court and bench amid his historic achievement.

According to the International Tennis Federation , the 37-year-old is now "the oldest gold medalist in the Olympic Tennis Event since 1988."

Sunday's gold medal is the first of his iconic tennis career, which includes 98 career titles, third-most in the Open Era.

As one media member put it , "Novak Djokovic really went from tearing his meniscus on clay to reaching the Wimbeldon Final to winning his first-ever gold medal on the same stage that he suffered his injury…all in the span of 3 months, all at the age of 37. The greatest of all time, without a shred of doubt."

After the match, Djokovic was also captured sharing a celebratory embrace with his daughter.
