    Scottie Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler let the tears flow on Sunday.

After winning his first gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the golfer got emotional as he stood on the podium and sang "The Star-Spangled Banner." He then kissed his wife, Meredith, who was holding the couple's three-month-old son, Bennett, according to the New York Post's Ethan Sears .

Scheffler's crying is entirely understandable, as winning his first gold medal in front of family is a moment he'll probably never forget. It wasn't an easy victory, either.

Entering Sunday, Scheffler was four shots off the lead. He mounted an impressive comeback, though, making three straight birdies to open the day and finishing with a final-round score of 62.

Jon Rahm's struggles also helped. After leading most of the day, the Spaniard hit three bogeys and a double-bogey on the back nine, falling off the medal stand and finishing tied for fifth.

Winning Olympic gold should make one of the best seasons in Scheffler's career even sweeter. In April, the No. 1 ranked player in the world captured his second green jacket at The Masters Tournament. The 28-year-old has also raked in more than $28M in prize money in 2024, via the PGA Tour's website.
