Olympic Runner Zablon Ekwam In Tears After Scary Moment During Race

On Sunday, the 2024 Paris Olympics continued, but for Kenyan runner Zablon Ekhal Ekwam, it came to an abrupt end after a scary moment during the men's 400m first-round heat six race.

Ekwam was in third place going into the final turn, but tragedy struck just before when he started to slow down after suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury. The remaining runners all ran past him as he fell to the floor. Ekwam lay flat on his belly in disbelief for a few moments before smacking the track.

After the race, he needed a hand off the track. Before leaving, Ekwam hunched over, visibly upset with the entire incident.

"Kenyan Zablon Ekhal Ekwam couldn't finish the men's 400m first-round heat due to an injury he suffered during the race."

Ekwam received a 'did not finish' for the race. England's Charlie Dobson, Belgium's Alexander Doom, and Jamaica's Jevaughn Powell finished with the top three times, respectively, and moved on to the finals.

Ekwam's personal best in the 400m came back in the Kenyan World Relays Trials in April 2024, recording a final time of 44.69, which secured his position in the Paris games. This time would have also qualified him for the Olympic final had he finished.
