    Grammy Award winning singer Shaun Martin dies aged 45 as he's remembered as a 'legend'

    Shaun Martin , a member of jazz band Snarky Puppy, has died at the age of 45.

    The Grammy Award winning singer's cause of death has not yet been revealed. He had been recovering from an undisclosed illness and had a benefit concert scheduled for him on September 14.

    Shaun's death was announced by his band on Instagram on Sunday. They shared a picture of him singing and wrote: "Yesterday, we lost a music legend and, more importantly, a beautiful, luminous human being. Shaun Martin touched so many people during his life and through the beautiful immortality of music, will continue to do so. There’s so much that can be said but words can’t do justice. Rest in peace."

    Fans flocked to the comments to pay tribute to the musician. "Nooooooo!!!!! Rest in peace maestro!" one person wrote. Another shared: "Shaun’s organ solo on skate u and synth solo on thing of gold inspired me so much at a young age. Truly one of my musical hero’s."

    "My condolences to all the Snarky fam. Sending love to y'all," a third fan added. Someone else shared: "I have always admired Shaun as a person and been inspired so much by his musicianship. I remember the first time I heard him play live with Snarky Puppy. We met after the show and he was so friendly and encouraging to me. My heart hurts for Shaun’s family, friends, Booker T. alumni, Dallas, and the entire music community… Rest in peace, Shaun."

    Shaun began his musical career when he was just four years old and started to learn the piano. He then began to learn classical and jazz music before attending Weatherford College and the University of North Texas.

    The musician won his first Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album for his work as a producer on Kirk Franklin’s Hero. Over the course of his career, he won seven Grammy Awards.

    Three of Shaun's Grammys were for his work with Snarky Puppy, while four were for his work as a music director for gospel singer Kirk Franklin. He won his most recent Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album with Snarky Puppy in 2023.

    The singer also worked with musicians including Bjork and Kim Burrell. Shaun is survived by his wife, Monica Wilson Martin, and son, Harlem.
