Third time's the charm when it comes to U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles.

Following back-to-back second-place finishes in the Paris Olympics' 100-meter dash that left a lot to be desired for the U.S. star, he knew he had to go all out in the final.

And that he did. It was a tight race between him and Jamaican sprinter Jishane Thompson when they crossed the finish line. At first glance, it looked like Thompson won the race, but when video replay showed that Lyles was first, it confirmed that the 20-year drought of a U.S. sprinter failing to win gold came to an end.

Lyles' reaction was calm and collected, achieving a personal best time of 9.79 seconds as he edged out Thompson by five thousandths of a second.

This prompted social media to react to the event, particularly the NBA community as Team USA's basketball team was in attendance for the event.
