Liverpool transfer news as Marc Guehi interest revived amid Adrien Rabiot U-turn

    By Tom Malley,

It has now been more than seven weeks since the summer transfer window officially opened and not one new player has walked through the doors at Anfield .

New boss Arne Slot has, however, been working remarkably well with the current squad at hand and three successive victories against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United in the United States to open his Reds account suggests there might, in fact, be no reason to panic.

Nonetheless, fans want to see some fresh faces through the door sooner rather than later and there is growing confidence that it will finally happen one way or another. With a number of names being linked with a move to the red half of Merseyside, things could be about to get exciting.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi had been continuously linked with a move to Liverpool this summer before a report from The Times on Friday claimed the club had retracted its interest in signing the player.

The report added how recent interest in the 24-year-old from Premier League top four rivals Newcastle United influenced Liverpool's decision to back away from a deal - and subsequently pushed the Magpies into making their move.

However, a fresh report from Caught Offside suggests Liverpool IS still interested in Guehi. It adds that the defender is open to a transfer if he can be guaranteed a significant amount of playing time, and be handed a long-term contract. Newcastle is also said to be in the running.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool desperately wants a new center-back and if the latest report is true, it appears the club is now willing to go all-out to get Guehi. He certainly won't come cheap but he would be a fantastic addition to the current backline and the Reds have every chance of securing his signature.

    Adrien Rabiot (free agent)

Like Guehi, Liverpool was constantly linked with a move for former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot at the start of the transfer window until things suddenly went quiet over the last few weeks. Some reports claimed the Reds were never interested in the first place, while others suggested Rabiot was looking elsewhere.

The Frenchman is certainly a wanted man, however, and Man United is also being linked with a move for the 29-year-old. Now, though, Liverpool could be back in with a shout of bringing Rabiot to Anfield according to a recent report from CaughtOffside .

It's claimed that Liverpool remains fully in contention for Rabiot this summer and further discussions between his representatives and the Reds, along with other interested parties such as the Red Devils and Arsenal, are expected to take place next week.

Liverpool.com says: It's hard to tell which way this one will go but Man United certainly seem the frontrunners as things stand. However, like with Guehi, Liverpool has no reason why it can't emerge victorious in the race to sign Rabiot and his addition would likely be a welcome one at Anfield.
