ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — High pressure aloft will result in mostly dry weather for Southwest and Central Virginia on Monday. However, increasing rain chances are anticipated for the latter half of the week.

Monday will start with morning temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s. Mostly to partly sunny skies are slated for the day with muggy air in place. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and lower/middle 90s.

A cold front will approach Southwest and Central Virginia on Tuesday and Wednesday. Isolated afternoon showers and storms are possible on Tuesday, but it won’t be a washout. Highs will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s. For Wednesday, there is a slightly greater chance for afternoon/evening showers and storms. Temperatures will be slightly cooler with highs in the 80s.

The cold front will sag across Virginia through the end of the week, providing daily chances for showers and storms. The front will interact with Debby as the storm system moves toward the Mid-Atlantic. The cold front and the tropical system may allow for repeated rounds of heavy rainfall Thursday through Saturday. Flooding is a concern.

    TRACKING THE TROPICS

Category 1 Debby made landfall around 7 a.m. Monday along the Florida Big Bend, near Steinhatchee. Considerable flooding is possible in portions of central and northern Florida.

Debby will weaken shortly after landfall. The storm will move slowly across northern Florida and southern Georgia late Monday and Tuesday. Southwest and Central Virginia could see some moisture from the tropical system by the latter half of the week.
