    Baycare Secures Massive $1.9 Billion Bond For Extensive Expansion Projects In Florida

    2024-08-06

    If you are a Floridian, you know that several large healthcare systems serve the state's communities. Examples are Nemours, Morton Plant Mease, as just a few choices. And one of Florida's largest healthcare systems - Baycare - has just secured a massive 10-figure bond.

    About Baycare: This not-for-profit healthcare system has been serving West Central Florida since 1997. It is one of the largest employers in the area - employing over 30,000 people. It has received "A" grades from the watchdog organization LeapFrog and it has been named as one of the top workplaces in the USA by USA Today.

    Employees who work for Baycare give it a 3.8 out of 5 stars on Indeed. Many say that it is a busy, but nice place to work. Some criticize management.

    About The $1.19 Billion Bond: The Hillsborough County Industrial Development Authority recently awarded $1.9 billion in financing plans to BayCare - the largest bond issued in the agency's 45-year history.

    Large Projects: The money will go toward several different projects, including the following:

    • $572 million of the bond will finance a new 154-bed hospital in Manatee County, which is expected to break ground in October of 2024.
    • Some of the bond will go toward a new facility for St Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa.
    • 305 million will be spent on a new 146-bed replacement hospital and the demolition of the South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City

    Smaller Projects: Some smaller portions of the bond will go toward projects like:

    an 86-bed hospital in Wesley Chapel;

    an emergency department at Bartow Regional Hospital;

    a new bed tower at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg;

    new equipment for Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater;

    the renovation of several buildings for Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor;

    renovations for Mease Dunedin Hospital;

    new equipment for Morton Plant North Bay Hospital;

    and renovations for St. Joseph’s Hospital North in Lutz and St. Joseph’s Hospital South campus in Riverview.
