Why do gold medal Olympians ring the bell at the Stade de France?

Olympians are marking their feat by ringing a bell at the Stade de France as well as receiving their gold medals.

The stadium has been changed from a rugby ground to where the track and field events are taking place at the Paris Olympics .

However, one familiar feature in the venue is the victory bell which is rang by gold medalists and it is quickly becoming an iconic part of the Olympic Games .

The bell has “Paris 2024” engraved into it and has previously been used by rugby players who have won their match at the Stade de France .

When will the Paris 2024 Olympics bell be hung at the Notre Dame cathedral?

Once the Olympics have come to an end, the bell will then be moved to Notre Dame cathedral .

This will be part of the building’s renovation after it caught on fire in 2019.

Extensive restoration work has been carried out after the blaze caused the spire and part of the roof to collapse.

Once restoration work has finished, the bell will be hung in one of the cathedral’s bell towers.

The bells of the Notre Dame have only been rang twice since the fire – one for the funeral of former French President Jacques Chirac in 2020 and one to mark the first anniversary of the blaze.

Who has rung the bell during the Paris 2024 Olympics?

There have been several gold medal winning athletes who have had the chance to ring the bell at the 2024 Olympics.

Here’s a look at which Olympians have had the chance:
