Call of Duty bans 65k accounts in a week but players are still furious and don’t think it’s enough

DESPITE being launched last year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 recently saw a huge influx of new players.

COD:MW3 dropped on Xbox Game Pass on July 26, allowing new players to join for free as part of the subscription.

However, with more people joining the game come more problems, and there have been thousands of complaints since the game was released.

Many of the complaints surround cheating, as a number of accounts use mods to make the game easier and give them an unfair advantage.

These mods include things like showing you the locations of the opposing team, or giving you improved aim on weapons.

As there are ranked modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this means that people can fail to meet these ranks because of those using additional software.

The official Call of Duty updates Twitter account recently announced that 65k accounts have been banned from the game.

The tweet reads: “The Ricochet Anti-Cheat team has now purged the Ranked Play leaderboards in both Call of Duty: Warzone and MW3, banning accounts for cheating and boosting.

“Team Ricochet has accelerated cheat vendor enforcements resulting in over 65k account bans across Ranked Play and non-Ranked modes in Warzone and MW3 this week.

“The team will continue to monitor and issue enforcements to anyone cheating or boosting in all game modes.”

Modern Warfare 3 has a concurrent player count of between 50k-100k on PC alone, meaning that 65k accounts is just a small number of the total player base.

Players have accused the developer of not doing enough to protect players from cheaters.

In reply to the tweet one user wrote: “Respectfully, this type of mass banning in waves you’re currently doing is the same as what you did in Warzone (without Ricochet).

“There seems to be little to no automation from Ricochet and it needs upgrading immediately.

“Just push the button and turn Ricochet into something similar to Valorant’s ‘Vanguard’ so your entire player base can finally be free of hackers.”

Another placed their complaints more directly, saying: “And 65k cheaters created new accounts immediately after being banned. Solved absolutely nothing!”

A different user shared the same sentiment, writing: “Is this the same 65k you banned last time around?”

While many are pleased that something is being done about the in-game cheating, others think that the current measures don’t go far enough to solve the problem.
