‘Getting rid of my peach fuzz was not worth it,’ moans skincare fan with ‘painful & expensive’ dermaplaning horror story

WITH iconic celebrities like Marilyn Monroe rumored to have shaved their peach fuzz for a smoother complexion, many women are giving dermaplaning a go.

One beauty fan, however, has shared a warning after she tried out the trend with disastrous results.

Redditor Faewyn01 said she regrets shaving her face and advised others to learn from her mistakes.

“You have probably heard about the wonders of dermaplaning online,” she said. “I know I did.”

She even heard her friends gush over the smoothing effects.

“I did not have that experience, unfortunately,” she added.

She said she bought a brand new tool to start her dermaplaning regimen.

However, starting the new beauty routine led to a skin condition called folliculitis , which she has since been dealing with for three months.

“Essentially the hair follicles all over my face got infected,” she said. “Though it looks like acne, it’s a bacterial infection.”

The condition spread to her neck, jawline, cheeks, and even her chest.

“It has been painful and expensive,” she said.

“My skin has never felt so rough, been so inflamed, and even though I’ve dealt with hormonal acne my entire life, looking back, that was nothing compared to this.”

She went through several attempts to fix the issue herself, even seeing a dermatologist to no avail.

However, she did admit that she may have tried too soon without thorough due diligence.

“I did not do the proper research on how to prep, use the tool, or proper aftercare,” she said.

“I take full responsibility for that but want others to understand the importance of dermaplaning correctly if you are DIYing or just going to a professional to have it done.”

She issued a word of warning to those looking to take the treatment into their own hands.

“Please be cautious, especially if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin,” she said.

“Getting rid of my peach fuzz for a week or two was not worth what I have been through the last three months.”

Other Redditors expressed their thoughts on the dermaplaning don’ts.

“Dermaplaning isn’t for everyone,” one wrote. “People with oily skin, acne prone, sensitive skin, rosacea, the list goes on and on.

“At-home dermaplaning isn’t a great idea either. It’s hard to maintain sanitary conditions in your bathroom.”
