Football season is SO CLOSE. And I think it's safe to say at this point that
Carrie Underwood is returning to once again perform the
Sunday Night Football theme song on NBC for the 12th season, because last night, she headlined the big concert to close out the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. And not only that, but she treated fans to a performance of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," the official
SNF theme song, in what was her first-ever live performance of it. She opened the show with that instantly-recognizable banger, and I'm sure football fans were extremely excited to hear that beautiful sound once again: Here's another angle: Carrie began performing the
Sunday Night Football theme song back in 2013, and in 2016 debuted the “Oh, Sunday Night” theme song, which was a spinoff of her 2016 duet with Miranda Lambert, “Somethin’ Bad.” And then in 2018, Carrie debuted another new theme song, “Game On,” which she co-wrote with Brett James and Chris DeStefano. However that song resulted in a copyright lawsuit and
Sunday Night Football reverted back to the original theme song, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which was adapted from Joan Jett’s 1988 hit “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” Last seasons rendition of it was filmed on set of Carrie’s Las Vegas REFLECTION residency, and as is the norm with the SNF opener, the video itself always looks a bit different each weekend depending on the game’s location and what the matchup is. The lyrics also change slightly each week depending on the teams featured. And while there's no official confirmation yet, I think we can bet on seeing Mrs. Carrie on primetime TV evert weekend once SNF kicks off next month on September 8th, when the Los Angeles Rams pay a visit to the Detroit Lions. Here's the 2023 edition of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night":
