TEAM GB are targeting multiple gold medals in track cycling thanks to their state-of-the-art bikes – and SOCKS.
Five-time Olympic champion Laura Kenny has tipped Team GB for gold in both the Men’s and Women’s Team Pursuit.
While Jack Carlin and Emma Finucane are both medal hopefuls in the Men’s Keirin and the Women’s Sprint and Keirin respectively.
And they have been given a terrific chance of claiming gold thanks to Team GB’s £55,000 bikes.
The British Hope bike, which is manufactured by Lotus, has used the best technology available to give the Team GB riders the upper hand in the velodrome.
The frame alone costs £25,000 while the energy saving disc wheels come in at £2,700 each.
The designers have drawn on inspiration from fighter jets for the forks, with a serrated inside edge that are intended to encourage air flow.
Riders will also benefit from specialised tyres designed to withstand double the pressure of a normal road bike.
While Team GB’s 3D printed seat post has set them back £2000 and the saddle £600 – while custom made socks aimed at maximising aerodynamics are priced at a whopping £720.
