In the final women's gymnastics event of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Team USA brought home two more medals, as Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles won silver and bronze, respectively, in the floor exercise final. But a score change for Chiles decided the fate for her and Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.
Originally, Chiles was given a 13.666, and Barbosu was given a 13.700. This would have won Barbosu the bronze, but Team USA made an inquiry, and Chiles' final score was changed by 0.100. This moved Chiles up to 13.766 and secured her a medal while moving Barbosu down to fourth place.
Before the score change, Barbosu was seen celebrating when she thought she had secured bronze.
In a video going around online, you can see the instant Barbosu realized she had lost her medal as she dropped her flag in disbelief. Later, Barbosu was seen walking off the floor in tears, with her coach trying to cheer her up.
Barbosu (18) was born in Focsani, Romania. She won six gold medals in the 2020 Junior European Championships, including all of the individual events. This was Barbosu's first Olympic appearance ever, and the future is bright for the young star.
Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade won gold in the floor final with a score of 14.166, narrowly beating out Biles (14.133) by 0.033 points.
Chiles has now won her first-ever Olympic medal in an individual event. She has also won a gold and silver medal in the 2024 and 2020 Olympics.
