HBO Reveals New Preview of IT Prequel Series Welcome to Derry

In the wake of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes last year, many HBO projects were delayed, including the upcoming IT spinoff from Andy Muschietti, who expands on the world he built in his recent adaptations of Stephen King's iconic novel.

IT: Welcome to Derry sees Bill Skarsgård reprise his role of Pennywise the Clown as we travel back to the 1960s and witness the lead-up to the events of the first film in Stephen King's IT series.

Max released a brand new preview of all their upcoming projects for this year and next, and buried deep within the promo was audiences' first sneak peek at what's to come in Welcome to Derry .

It was just five seconds long, but they packed in enough to set the series' mood from a succession of seven images, each providing a new detail.

Opening with a familiar image to fans of IT , kids on their bikes under the bridge, we then cut to a deep red background with a man standing in front of it as a voice-over says, "This ain't America. This is Derry."

We see the "Welcome to Derry" sign and one image after the other of blood-soaked people horrified by what they're seeing, culminating in Pennywise's infamous eerie giggle and a woman lurking behind a glass door.

It may be short, but it's a thrilling first look that feels familiar to the world Muschietti built with his cast and crew in 2017 with IT and then again in 2019 with IT: Chapter Two .

IT: Welcome to Derry is yet to have an exact release date, but it is confirmed for 2025.
