The heartbreaking death of Jay Slater has been officially confirmed after his body was repatriated. The 19-year-old's family, including his mum Debbie, 55, dad Warren, 58, and brother Zak, 24, accompanied his body back to their home in the northwest of England from Tenerife .

A UK coroner's post-mortem examination revealed traumatic head injuries consistent with a tragic fall from a height while on holiday in Tenerife, resulting in an instantaneous death.

Debbie is now preparing funeral arrangements, which include a ceremony at Accrington Cemetery Chapel next Saturday and has asked mourners to wear something blue to pay tribute to Jay .

A poignant obituary released by the family reads: "After Jay left Rhyddings High School he went on to become an apprentice bricklayer with the PH Build group, a job he greatly enjoyed.

"At the young age of five, Jay started playing football for Huncoat United FC until the age of 17 and also did a few seasons with the Sunday team at St Joseph's too.

"He also loved spending time chilling out with his friends. Jay's love of music and dance started at a very young age. He loved attending music festivals and events across the country and also loved to socialise and meet new people.

"A loving son of Debbie and Warren, a cherished brother of Zak and brother in law of Jessica, a treasured grandson of Dawn, June and the late Dougie, a much loved nephew of Glen and Katie, a dear cousin of Maddie and Tillie and a loyal friend to many. Jay will be very sadly missed by all those who knew him."

Debbie has promised to give her boy the goodbye he deserves and is planning on using some of the £75,000 (€87,000) contributed by kind-hearted supporters for the funeral costs.

Jay, who was training to be a bricklayer, went to the NRG music festival with a couple of buddies before he disappeared on June 17. His last known whereabouts were Rural de Teno Park in the northern part of Tenerife, which is about an 11-hour trek from where he was staying.

The officers from Spanish Civil Guard believe Mr Slater might have had an accident in the challenging terrain where they found him.
