PARIS, France (NEXSTAR) — Team USA’s Bobby Finke set a new world record in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the Paris Olympics, clocking in at 14 minutes, 30.67 seconds. Finke’s record-breaking swim eclipsed the previous mark set by China’s Sun Yang in 2012.

WFLA’s Aileen Hnatiuk spoke with Bobby Fink’s family and they reflected on his achievements of defending his gold medal and breaking a world record.

The family members expressed their overwhelming pride and excitement, describing the experience as surreal and indescribable. They emphasized the significance of having 14 family members present to witness the event, highlighting the support and love that fuels Bobby’s success.

“This is the best Christmas present. Any present all my kids could give me combined, this is the present they gave me and I’m just… I’m over the moon.
