Adult Cancer Survivors Needed for Disability Identity Study

The Southwest ADA Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann and ILRU-Independent Living Program are conducting research to analyze the relationship between cancer survivorship and disability identity, and to determine what role an ADA education plays in developing a disability identity. As part of this research, we are asking adults (18+) who have been diagnosed with cancer and are living in the United States about their experiences as cancer survivors.

The information gathered from this study will help :

1. gain a better understanding of cancer survivors’ experiences within their community
2. determine the level of disability self-identification in cancer survivors, and 3) identify possible areas of improvement for ADA education and awareness within the community. These findings will also improve the resources and assistance that the Southwest ADA Center can provide on this topic.

Regardless of the experience as a cancer survivor, participants can provide an insightful look into this aspect of cancer survivorship. After the first question which confirms eligibility for this survey, they can skip any questions that they prefer not to answer. The questionnaire will take approximately five minutes to complete.

This quantitative research study involves no foreseeable risk as no personal information will be collected. There is no cost and participants will not be paid to take part in this study. Taking this survey is completely voluntary, contact information is not required so answers can remain anonymous. Participants may withdraw at any time and it will not affect any relationships with the Southwest ADA Center and the Memorial Hermann Health System.
