The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat are guarantees at the Olympic Games. And during the women's gymnastics Floor final on Monday, both of those factors were on full display.
American gymnast Jordan Chiles initially finished her routine with a 13.666 score. But after an inquiry was launched, her score was bumped to 13.766 — putting her onto the podium with a bronze medal finish behind Brazilian Rebeca Andrade and United States teammate Simone Biles.
This score change resulted in jubilation for Chiles, but heartbreaking pain for Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.
Barbosu, 18, had already started to celebrate her bronze medal before the last-second score change. Video of the Romanian Olympian finding out her fate is going viral on social media.
This bronze marks the first individual medal for Chiles in her Olympic career. It would've been a first for Barbosu as well.
Biles claimed her fourth medal of this year's games with her second-place finish in Floor. The all-time great gymnast notched gold in the team finals, All-Around and Vault.
