McDonald's adds two new versions of 'iconic' burger to menu - but there's a catch

McDonald's has added yet another tantalizing new twist to their menu by giving the beloved Quarter Pounder an upgrade .

Fans of the fast food chain will be able to choose from an incredible four different types of the menu staple from August 7 as they put a fresh twist on the classic. The offerings feature mouth-watering updates that will have customers flocking to the drive-thru for a chance to sample them.

First is the Quarter Pounder BBQ Bacon and Crispy Onions , which the fast-food giant are describing as the "iconic Quarter Pounder with a flavoursome twist." The second offering is a Quarter Pounder Deluxe , containing crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes and pickles, stacked on top of the beef pattie, plus cheese, onions, tangy mustard, ketchup and McChicken sauce.

Then in third and fourth are the classical versions of the burger - the humble Quarter Pounder and the beefed up Double Quarter Pounder. Meanwhile, Mozzarella Sticks with Sweet Chilli Sauce are also here to stay for now. However, if you're hoping to sink your teeth into one of the yummy new additions there is one catch - they're currently only available to customers in Australia.

Liz Whitbread, Senior Brand Manager for McDonald’s Australia said in a statement, “Our winter menu is all about adding a seasonal touch on Macca’s classic flavours – debatably, it doesn’t get more iconic than the Quarter Pounder. With fresh twists on one of our most loved burgers, featuring exciting new flavour combinations and quality ingredients, we’re warming up Macca’s winter menu and satisfying those cravings this season.”

However, if you are hoping for something fresh the all-new jumbo burger is the latest initiative from McDonald's following on from their recent $5 meal deal as they try to win back customers who have turned their back on fast-food. McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski announced the Big Arch burger last Monday as the latest addition to their menu lineup.

The epic burger will feature two patties, melted cheese, tangy McDonald's sauce, and crispy toppings according to a report from Restaurant Business Magazine. Announcing the burger Kempczinski said: “It's a quintessential McDonald's burger with a twist on our iconic, familiar flavors.”

He also revealed that the new creation is currently getting consumer testing in three international markets, including Canada and Portugal. Should the introduction of the fresh recipe be a success in testing, it will then be rolled out to additional markets globally including the United States.
