    Obituary: Jack Lewis Bland, 89

    Jack Lewis Bland

    Jack Lewis Bland, 89, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away from his home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2024.

    Jack was born July 2, 1935, to the late Guy Alvin Bland and Bessie Morris Bland.

    Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery Lee Bland and Douglas Wayne Bland.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Peggy Wickline Bland; his son, Stephen Bland (Diane) of Sinks Grove, WV; and daughter, Lynne Bland of Virginia Beach, VA; sister-in-law, Carol Wickline Baker (Perry) of  Martinsburg, WV; two  granddaughters,  Sandi Goan (Kra) of Florence, SC, Autumn Bland of Gap Mills, WV; daughter-in-law, Collette Bland of Gap Mills, WV; grandson, Darin Dowdy (Amanda) of Rougmont, NC; 4 great-grandchildren, Emma, Elizabeth, Levi, and Samuel. He had many special cousins, especially Samantha and Marvin Hylton, Joan Brown, and Butch Bland; and his cousins in North Carolina, Vicki, Jeff, Dreama, and Cathy. Special thanks to Ella Wickline, who was there for support, love, and many traveling road trips to Roanoke. Extended family members that were as his own children, Donnie Carey (Paula) Oklahoma City, OK, Ronnie Carey, deceased, Debbie Carey of White Sulphur Springs, Lynne and Matthew Tuckwiller and their two sons, John and Jamie.  Special friends who are close as family, and loved and supported us faithfully, Lewis and Sue Hanna Kirby and their two children, Lucas and Hanna Kirby, Cindy and Franklin Boggs, and Carolyn Ware (Christopher), Merri Bryant and Rachel Wykle; his lifelong childhood friend of 83 years, who has been by his side faithfully, Freddie Trevail; John Feury and Pastor Greg Scott, who visited almost daily while at rehab in Genesis and at his home.

    Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He could talk deer hunting and fishing all day with his buddies. He was also a civil war buff. Jack loved animals of all kinds and took in many pets throughout his life. He also loved to garden and kept his and all the neighbors’ grass immaculate. Jack retired from The Greenbrier Hotel after 45 years.

    The family would like to thank everyone who stopped by with meals and prayers. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Hospice House, as well all the  physicians nurses and home healthcare nurses.

    Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Ben Gurley, Pastor Greg Scott, and Darin Dowdy, in White Sulphur Springs. The family will receive family and friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.  Interment will be at Carmel Cemetery in Gap Mills WV.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Ridgeway, John Feury, Joe Wooding, Earnie Adkins, Bill Fanus, Tony Varner, Greg Sibold, JC Napier, Lee Robinson, and Larry Echols. Active pallbearers will be Peter Bostic, Jay Callison, Larry Counts, Lewis Kirby, Jamie Tuckwiller, Jason Burdette, Travis Baker, Kyle Padgett, and Shawn Bittinger.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Bland Scholarship Fund, Peggy Bland, 683 Big Draft Road, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.
