With real-feel temps occasionally climbing over 100 degrees, Landlords face 'costly' decisions

New York City — Last month the Farmer's Almanac predicted this summer forecast "may bring the hottest temperatures in [New York's] recorded history!"

So far, the forecasters at the Almanac have looked like Nostradamus. If you're a landlord, that's not good news.

Last month a bill was introduced that will require landlords to keep units below 78 degrees inside, whenever it's above 82 degrees outside. As for why this is a "problem" for landlords, they invested in the building to turn a profit.

Few things "eat up" profits more than air conditioning an entire building when temps consistently flirt with 100 degrees.

"Just as the landlord provides heat in the winter, they should be providing cooling in the summer," City Councilman Lincoln Restler said.

Though the Councilman's suggestion sounds like noise to landlords, for the tenants — it's music to their ears.
