Preseason Coaches Poll Top 25 Reaction: Underrated, Overrated, Disrespected

The 2024 preseason Coaches Poll top 25 came out, and ... it's not that bad.

However, as always, a few teams were underrated, a few were overrated, and a few programs were totally disrespected by the coaches.

2024 Preseason Coaches Poll Top 25 First Thoughts

- It's not all that bad. There's no beefing with being in love with Georgia in the top spot - even though Ohio State is really the best team coming into the season - and Oregon and Texas are the instant knee-jerk reaction next two, just because. Again, though ...

- It's fine. Remember, the preseason polls aren't supposed to be predictive. They're supposed to be a snapshot of the opinions of the people who do the polls. And, as always ...

- The coaches don't get too quirky. They go with the hot teams, the ones with quarterbacks they know, and in general, they don't tend to like teams undergoing a whole lot of big changes. That makes Michigan at 8 interesting. More on that in a moment.

Overrated teams in the Preseason Coaches Poll

Kansas State (17)
The record will probably be a wee bit better than the team. This isn't a bad ranking, but overall the Wildcats are probably closer to fringe-top 25 than top 15.

SMU (29)
The team is better, the coaching is stronger, and ... the ACC is tougher. Power Four schedule reality is about to come to breakfast.

Liberty (35)
The Flames will come up with another monster record, but talent-wise they're not there with a slew of teams ranked lower in the Others Receiving Votes.

Underrated teams in the Preseason Coaches Poll

Arizona (21)
Uhhhhhh, coaches? You did see that Arizona didn't lose that much despite the coaching change, right? Brent Brennan is a strong get to take over. But ...

Washington (26)
If you think Jedd Fisch is worth THAT much to put Arizona at 21 - it should be around 17 - then you should think he's good enough to put the Dawgs in the top 25.

Louisville (27)
This is a little tricky - the Cardinals should be better this season, but with a slightly worse record.

It's about schedules, records, and who each team has to deal with. (I don't buy into the last two, but I needed someone to round out the top five.)
