Celine Dion‘s vocals are superhuman. She has proved that fact time and time again both in the studio and on stage. Though we might like to, many of us can’t sing along to a Dion song. Or, if we do, it’s a pale imitation that only comes out when we’re sure no one is listening in. It’s a hard won task in general, but the four Dion songs below prove especially difficult.

4 Celine Dion Songs That Are Impossible To Sing Along To

    1. “Taking Chances”

Though perhaps not Dion’s most vocally challenging song ever, “Taking Chances” is certainly still a big ask for us mere mortals. The chorus erupts into a difficult string of belted notes that are endlessly exciting for the listener. Perhaps it’s better to just revel in Dion’s magic than to join in.

But, what do you say to taking chances?

What do you say to jumping off the edge?

Never knowing if there’s solid ground below

Or a hand to hold, or hell to pay

    2. “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”

“It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is a go-to on many karaoke catalogs. Nevertheless, very few can pull it off. This dramatic track can make anyone feel like a world-renowned pop star, however, it also lays bare who actually has the chops to do it.

I finished crying in the instant that you left

And I can’t remember where or when or how

And I banished every memory you and I had ever made

    3. “The Power of Love”

While a little cheesy by today’s standards, in the early ’90s, “The Power of Love” was a strong testament to the emotive quality of Dion’s voice. Chills ensue when she breaks out into the chorus of this song. We venture to guess that many of our renditions would prompt an entirely different visceral reaction.

    ‘Cause I’m your lady

    And you are my man

    Whenever you reach for me

I’ll do all that I can

    4. “All By Myself”

Speaking of cheesy by today’s standards, “All By Myself” takes the last slot on our list. If we remove all the cultural context of this song–i.e. the many ways people have used this track in an ironic way–we have a brilliant ballad that showcases Dion’s incomparable voice. Go ahead and give this song a go. Your respect for Dion will double–if that’s even possible.

    Livin’ alone

I think of all the friends I’ve known

    When I dial the telephone

    Nobody’s home
