Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent will be back for Season 2 , but it’ll be short at least one key cast member.

In a new interview with our sister site IndieWire , Peter Sarsgaard (who played deputy chief prosecutor Tommy Molto in Season 1) revealed that he won’t be returning for the legal thriller’s second run.

“I’m not really that interested in sequels,” he told the outlet. “I think I’ve only ever done one season of anything. I think I’m a one-season person.”

He added: “I tell my kids this sometimes, maybe I’ve done 90, 100 different things over the years between movies, TV shows, and plays. I say, ‘I’m very good at saying hello and saying goodbye.’ There’s a very valuable thing in saying goodbye because then you have to look for another source of inspiration and then you change.”

While the series was renewed back in July, Apple TV+ confirmed that the new season will revolve around a “brand new case.” However, a show rep declined to say whether the new season will feature an entirely new cast. Lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal will at the very least return behind-the-scenes, once again serving as an executive producer alongside David E. Kelley, J.J. Abrams, Rachel Rusch Rich, Dustin Thomason and Matt Tinker.

Based on Scott Turow’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, the eight-episode series covers a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Gyllenhaal) is suspected of the crime. “The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together,” reads its official description.

In addition to Sarsgaard and Gyllenhaal, the Season 1 ensemble includes Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Lily Rabe and Noma Dumezweni.
