The whereabouts of Shanon Biles, the biological mom of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, are something fans are wondering about. Simone’s birth mother has been the subject of inquiry over the past decade, given Simone’s success in the sport during that time. However, when Shanon is mentioned in various documentaries, like in Simone Biles Rising on Netflix, they don’t go into much detail about her, leaving viewers to puzzle over what happened to her. Here’s everything we know about Shanon Biles and where she is now.

What is Shanon Biles doing now?

The latest info on Shanon Biles is that she still lives in Columbus, Ohio and has an amicable, though intentionally reserved, relationship with Simone Biles.

This is based on a brief statement she made to The Daily Mail in 2021, saying that Simone is “gonna be okay” after her struggles with the “twisties” at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At the time, she made the statement from the doorstep of her red-brick row house in Columbus, Ohio. The report says that Shanon is “sober and healthy.”

At the age of 3, Simone Biles and her three siblings entered foster care due to her mother having struggles with drug and alcohol abuse. Nellie Biles, Simone’s adopted mother, in Simone Biles Rising says that Simone and her siblings where in foster care for six to nine months. In the documentary, Simone adds that during this tumultuous period “there were times where you didn’t know what was going to happen… you didn’t know if there was going to be food on the table, you didn’t know if mother was coming back.”

According to a 2016 interview with The Daily Mail, when Shanon signed the adoption papers in 2003 to Nellie and her father, Ron Biles, he “flipped a switch on [her] – no communication, don’t call, and don’t visit.” She says that her father didn’t want her “coming in and out of their lives when [she] wasn’t right.” Over time, Shanon says she was able to get sober in 2007 and was later able to see her children again.

However, Shanon stated in an 2016 interview with TMZ that she isn’t happy about the focus her father has had on her addiction. She believes that her struggles with drugs are in the past and should stay in the past, and that he didn’t needed to be “so harsh” about it during an NBC interview.

According to court records from Franklin County, Ohio, Shanon Biles faced charges of assault and disorderly conduct based on an incident on September 15, 2019. As indicated by Heavy, she pled guilty to the assault charge with the disorderly conduct charge dropped. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail but this was suspended, with her probation set for 730 days, which has already ended by January 12, 2022. She also pled guilty in 2013 to driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, with her driver’s license suspended for six months at that time.
